Blueprint Burglary (Prototype)

Governmental funded prototype
After founding Goon Squad, we set out to develop our first game (besides Demon Inc.). Through a series of idea jams, we landed on a unique concept: a strategy-focused heist game where players take on the role of a crime boss orchestrating burglaries. Unlike action-heavy heist games, our approach emphasizes careful planning. Players map out every step of the heist before execution—once the plan is in motion, they can only watch as it unfolds, without direct control over their crew. Success depends entirely on strategy and foresight.
My role in the project extended beyond project management, where I provided a structured platform for developers to manage their tasks efficiently. I was also responsible for planning and writing all necessary documents for our funding application to the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. This was a major challenge, as it was my first time applying for funding. One of the biggest hurdles was forecasting every step of the project — including budget allocation and development timelines — before a single line of code had been written. Budget planning was an entirely new experience for me, but through careful research and planning, we successfully secured funding by the end of 2024.
In addition to my management responsibilities, I also took charge of the game’s sound design and music. My goal was to create a realistic and natural audio experience that complements the game’s minimalistic graphic style. Rather than using exaggerated or overly stylized sound effects, I focused on subtle, immersive audio cues that enhance the atmosphere and reinforce the strategic nature of the gameplay. Every sound — from the quiet footsteps of burglars sneaking through a building to the tension-building soundtrack — was designed to support the game's slow, methodical pacing.
The funding will be used solely for developing the game’s prototype. Once completed, we plan to apply for full game funding to bring the project to life on a larger scale. This marks an exciting first step for Goon Squad, and I look forward to refining and expanding the game as development progresses.
